What is an AVIF to PNG converter?

An AVIF to PNG converter decodes an AVIF image and rewrites it as a lossless PNG. Nothing is discarded on the way: every pixel comes out exactly as it went in, and the alpha channel survives, so transparent areas stay transparent.

That is the opposite trade from the AVIF to JPG converter. JPG gives you a small file that opens anywhere; PNG gives you an exact file that is usually several times larger. Pick PNG when the picture still has work to do — editing in Photoshop or Figma, compositing over another layer, feeding a print or OCR pipeline — rather than when it just needs to be shared.

The conversion runs in your browser with the Canvas API. The AVIF is decoded, drawn to a canvas at its original size and encoded as PNG, so the file is never uploaded, and no account, watermark or file limit is involved.

If the PNG turns out too heavy for the web, the image compressor is the next step, and the AVIF to WebP converter will keep the transparency in a far smaller file that every current browser reads.

How to convert AVIF to PNG

  1. Drop the .avif files onto the upload area, or click to browse. Batch upload is supported, so a folder converts in one pass.
  2. Check the queue: each row lists the file name, its original size and the output format, PNG.
  3. Conversion starts automatically after you select your images.
  4. Download an image and open it to inspect the result, including any transparent areas.
  5. Read the size report. PNG is lossless, so the output is normally bigger than the source — that is expected, not an error.
  6. Download the PNG files individually, or press Download all for the batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an AVIF file to PNG?

Drop the .avif files onto the upload area above and press Convert. Every file in the queue is decoded and rewritten as a lossless PNG, and the results can be downloaded one by one or all at once.

Does the conversion lose quality?

No. PNG is a lossless format, so the pixels that come out are the pixels that went in. The file gets bigger instead — that is the trade you are accepting.

Does transparency survive the conversion?

Yes. Both AVIF and PNG support an alpha channel, so transparent pixels stay transparent. Unlike a JPG conversion, nothing is flattened onto a white background.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses hard and PNG does not compress at all in the same sense. Photos commonly grow several times larger; screenshots and flat graphics grow far less, sometimes hardly at all.

Can I convert several AVIF files at once?

Yes. The upload area accepts multiple files and the queue converts them in a single run, so a folder of AVIF images becomes PNG in one batch.

Is this AVIF to PNG converter free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser with the Canvas API, so the images never leave your device. It also keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

AVIF to PNG Tips

  • PNG is lossless, so the output is usually larger than the AVIF.
  • Transparency survives the conversion, which matters before editing.
  • Pick PNG when a workflow needs pixel-exact output.
