What does the Mac keyboard tester check?
This page uses a compact Mac keyboard layout with Command, Option and arrow keys. Press a physical key to see its matching key cap respond.
Held keys and previously tested keys use different colors. Fn and Eject may be handled by the system, so missing events alone do not prove a fault.
How to test Mac keys
- Use this Mac layout to check letters, arrows, Control, Option and Command. Open the Windows page if you need a numeric keypad.
- Keep this page focused and press the physical keys you want to check. You do not need to click the on-screen keyboard.
- Each key lights up on press and stays marked after you release it, so you can keep track without a second person reading the screen.
- Watch the matching key caps: held keys and previously tested keys have different colors.
- Press Reset to clear every mark and run the test again.

Frequently asked questions
Is this keyboard tester free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no download and no usage limit.
Are my key presses uploaded anywhere?
No. The test reads keyboard events inside the page and never sends them to a server.
Why do Fn, media keys or the Windows key not light up?
Fn and media keys are often handled by keyboard firmware or the operating system. Cmd/Win and Menu events vary by system and browser. No response alone does not prove a fault.
Why do some shortcuts trigger the browser instead?
Shortcuts such as F11, Ctrl+W or Cmd+T are captured by the browser or the system before the page can stop them. Test those combinations outside the page.
Can I test a 60 percent or custom keyboard?
Yes. The layout maps physical keys, so any key that sends a standard code lights up, even when the cap legends differ.
How do I check for ghosting or N-key rollover?
Hold several keys down at once. Every cap that stays lit is being reported at the same time; keys that drop out point to a rollover limit.
